Previously on Australian Survivor the tribes finally merged, with lines drawn neatly down the middle with five a piece. They celebrated the milestone with a classic Survivor auction, where Luke won the power to send someone back to camp before it even truly began. And despite Parvati giving him ample opportunities to change his mind and not make an enemy of her, she was the unlucky individual. Or as she thought, as she arrived at camp to find a large jar of cookies. And when she accidentally smashed them while trying to bury them, was even more delighted to find a Steal a Vote advantage. Despite all that excitement, the immunity challenge was cancelled due to a wild lightning storm, so the last four standing drew rocks with Tommi the lucky one to ‘win’ the first individual immunity. Back at camp Luke desperately tried to keep the Aussies together, though Kirby had other ideas, flipping to Parvati and Cirie with Shonee, and blindsiding her former ride or die Sarah in the process. Officially making her the Queen of the Jury, as she – and the audience, TBH – deserves.

Back at camp Luke quickly congratulated everyone on the spicy little blindside, despite clearly being pissed about the turn of events. Kirby pulled him aside to tell him that she had actually told him she threw out Sarah’s name, so he shouldn’t be shocked or upset, which only made him angrier. Leading he and Janine to catch up over their mutual rage, confirming the Aussie alliance is dead and that they will work with whoever it takes to carry the two of them to the end.

The tribe awoke the next day to more rain, as Kirby and Parvati flirted and couple-dressed. Kirby told us that she is all in on her alliance with Parvati, as she desperately wants to go to the end with the best of the best. The duo then caught up in the jungle with both of them playfully talking about not being sure if the other trusts them, though Kirby continued to assure her that she’d love to go to the end with her and Cirie. Which was music to Parvati’s ears, as she just wanted to get to the end, given it is so unlikely as the biggest target remaining. Parvati then caught up with Lisa, whispering about not wanting to be seen talking to each other in front of Luke and Janine as the duo were way too shifty. While pissed off Lisa, as she caught up with Kass about feeling like they have been cast aside for Shonee and Kirby.

Janine meanwhile was pissed about Kirby putting all the Aussies on the bottom, well her and Luke at least, so they split up to find a crack in the World tribe. First Janine got to work on Parvati, assuring her that she would love to work with her and Cirie, before casually digging for intel on Kass and pretending that Kass had been laying the groundwork to pull off a Parvati blindside. And whether it is true or not, the fact that Janine is orchestrating it makes me so happy. Particularly since George was saying she didn’t deserve to be here, when she does. She is an ICON.

The tribe met up with Jonthan for the latest immunity challenge where they would each have to stand on a box and hold up two weighted beams with the last person standing jagging individual immunity. And a mystery scroll. Everyone tried to take their places, with Shonee and Lisa struggling to even get started given they were so heavy. Surprisingly they lasted a minute, which is not something Cirie can say as she became the first to drop. She was followed by Janine and Lisa, as Shonee continued to struggle before finally dropping at the two minute mark. Luke was squirming and moaning for ages, though managed to hold on for five minutes, dropping just after Tommi. Kirby, Kass and Parvati continued to fight, with the latter two literally just standing like statues. While Lisa sweetly praised Parvati for being so strong. After ten minutes Kirby dropped, leaving the battle of the challenge beasts with Kass super chill, while Parvati squirmed back and forth before dropping at 15 minutes, handing Kass immunity. And the scroll, which JLP told her she wasn’t allowed to read until tomorrow morning.

Back at camp everyone praised Kass for being so strong, questioning where she has trained to become such a beast. Parvati meanwhile was devastated, worried about Kass being immune and potentially coming for her. Thankfully she pulled her aside, telling her that she is so nervous to not be immune because she has heard that Kass had been throwing her name around. After Kass assured her it was all a lie, they agreed to stay World strong. Parv immediately caught up with Kirby, with the latter pledging her undying loyalty and assuring her that she hasn’t heard anything. And will protect her, promising to never write each other’s name down. They then locked in a plan to get rid of Lisa and Tommi, before Kirby approached Luke and Janine to loop them in. Which they were obviously keen on.

Shonee meanwhile was thrilled to have given the public what they wanted by voting with Parvati last tribal council, though could see that Kirby’s fan girling over Parv was getting a bit much. As such, she caught up with Luke and agreed that she would be thrilled to work together to get rid of Cirie instead. After giggling about having a little bit of fun, Luke pulled Lisa and Kass aside to see if they would be interested in working with them. Skillfully telling them he would happily get rid of Kirby or Cirie, whoever they preferred. Janine meanwhile was disappointed that Kass was now immune after all of her maneuvering, so caught up with Cirie and Kirby to lock in a Lisa vote instead. Before Kirby disappeared and the duo quickly started talking shit about her, before agreeing that it would make more sense to get rid of her instead. Though Cirie admitted she was nervous about missing the shot, because Kirby would clearly target them instead if she survives.

Before she admitted to us that she is frankly just terrified of all of the Aussies as they play hard.

Lisa and Kass caught up with Cirie, with the latter telling them about Janine’s plans, while Kass told her that Shonee and Luke were throwing out her name. Cirie then went to loop in Parvati, assuring her that she trusts Janine wholeheartedly, particularly since Kirby has already voted out her number one in Sarah. While Parvati was concerned about whether she could trust Kass moving forward. And the fact she promised not to vote Kirby out. Kass then caught up with Parvati, throwing out Kirby as an option and just as Parvati looked to be locking in the plan, Kirby arrived and pulled her aside. She then got a little paranoid about Parv turning on her, before confirming she won’t come for her. Though admitted to us that she feels like she is going to betray one of Kirby or Cirie, and that makes her nervous. And when Kirby mentioned that she has trust issues after Feras went back on his promise to play his idol for her, it gave Parvati the idea to do the same, as she would then have a very grateful and loyal ally in her corner.

At tribal council Lisa spoke about how chaotic it was on the beach that afternoon, with Cirie agreeing that she is even finding things moving way too fast and this is her fifth rodeo. Luke then explained everything that happened at the last tribal council, outing Kirby for blowing up the Aussie alliance and for being the reason that Sarah is on the jury. To her credit, Kirby backed her move and said you have to make a move when you can, more importantly, before the other person does, and she knew Sarah would strike eventually. With Janine agreeing that it did make sense. Cirie meanwhile wasn’t sure whether you can ever trust that conversations are true in the game, given people could be trying to play you. While Lisa joked that she tries not to lie, just flim flam. While Kass admitted she definitely cannot lie in English.

As talk went back to Kirby turning on her ride or die, she joked everyone should stop talking about it. She admitted she was hopeful that Sarah could still reward a good move if she made it to the end, because she could have easily made it against Kirby first. Cirie meanwhile was hoping to get some clarity after the vote, while Kirby was committed to doing what she said to her allies back at camp, while Parvati was just wanting to solidify her trust with someone and, ideally, clear a path to the end. With that the tribe voted and after a couple landed on Cirie and Lisa, Janine banded with the World tribe – Parvati included – to send Kirby out of the game to join her former ride or die on the jury.

To say that Kirby was emotional to be voted out, particularly by Parvatai, was an understatement. But to her credit, she took it in her stride and knew that she was fast becoming one of the biggest targets. And that is in no small part due to the fact that she plays hard, always opts to take the big move and frankly, is deadly. In all meanings of the word. So I pulled her in for a massive hug and tried to wash away the bitterness with a big batch of Brookirby Bentley.

Yeah, yeah – this is kinda, sorta a cheats recipe. But when it is this good, you can’t be made. Simply a brownie dotted with cookie dough, combining the two seems to elevate them to somewhere godly. And oh so delicious.

Brookirby Bentley
Serves: 8.

Ingredients
3 cups flour
½ tsp kosher salt
125g dark chocolate, roughly chopped
250g unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 ½ cup muscovado sugar
¾ cup raw caster sugar
3 eggs
1 tbsp vanilla extract
2 tsp baking powder
200g milk chocolate chips

Method
Preheat the oven to 160C and 1 cup of flour and the salt into a large bowl and leave aside.

In a double boiler, melt the dark chocolate and half the butter until smooth and glossy. Remove from the heat and stir in half the muscovado sugar and all the caster sugar until combined. One at a time, whisk in two eggs until the mixture comes back together before folding in the flour and salt.

Pour the batter into a lined 25cm square cake tin and leave to rest while you prep the cookie dough.

Place the remaining butter and muscovado sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer and beat until thick and creamy. Add the egg and vanilla and continue to beat for a further minute, or until it just comes together.

Remove from the mixer and fold through the remaining flour and baking powder. Again, when just together, fold through the chocolate chips.

Dot the cookie dough over the brownies, spreading and smooshing to your heart’s desire. Pop into the oven to bake for 20-30 minutes, or until just set in the middle. And by just set, just set. Remove from the oven to cool in the pan for an hour before carving and devouring.

Previously on Australian Survivor seven of the best Aussies were thrown into battle against seven of the best from around the globe, with us seeing big names go out back to back to back in the form of Rob, David and George. JLP then decided to spice up the Mother convention by switching things up with individual immunity for each tribe, as both tribes would attend the next tribal council. With Shonee months out from giving birth, she couldn’t jag victory in one of her signature challenges, leaving Sarah to take out victory for the Aussies. While all the internationals were still fighting until Parvati narrowly snagged victory for the World over Kass. Back at camp, Shonee found herself the Aussie target while the World tribe were torn between Tony and Tommi. At tribal council, Jonathan explained that one tribe would only be at tribal council temporarily, as a fire making challenge would decide which stays. Repeating history, poor Cirie was defeated, this time by Sarah, leading to an explosive World tribal council where Tony and Parv went to town, before the Black Widow felled the two-time champ.

And jagged the hidden immunity idol as everyone exited, even getting JLP to mind her torch while she looked.

Back at camp the new Black Widow Brigade were delighted to have survived tribal council, particularly one that was as wild and chaotic as Tony with his back against the wall. Parvati in particular was thrilled to have been able to jag the hidden immunity without anyone even noticing. Cirie was quick to remind them that while they were glad to see Tony go, she would still far prefer to be going into the merge with a 6-4 advantage, rather than being even with the Aussies. Though Kass didn’t really mind, given she, Tommi and Lisa had the power in their current tribe. And even though she knows she can’t trust Parvati long term, she will fight tooth and nail to stay in the numbers at the first merge vote.

Right on cue, the tribes met up with Jonathan the next day for a cheeky little auction, with a side of merge buffs because they have officially merged. Everyone dropped their old stinky buffs and popped on with their new ones, with Parvati immediately nervous about being the biggest target left with Tony gone. Shonee meanwhile was thrilled to be the first Aussie to make the merge four times in a row, even though she knew that the Aussies were intending to get rid of her last night, and as such, wants anyone to go except for Kirby.

JLP checked in with Lisa, who broke down about how excited she was to make the merge again. She didn’t really elaborate though, as the auction kicked off – sweet Tommi’s first! The first item was a scroll, with him quickly bidding all of his money. Kirby grew nervous and was going to buy in with rocks, and while she declined, Luke was in. With the King of the Jungle coming out on top of the rock draw, opening the scroll in front of the merge tribe and learning that he just bought himself the power to send someone straight back to camp, promptly booting Parv and putting a massive target on his back. With her promising that it will definitely come back to bite him. She then counted down from 5 to allow him the chance to change his mind, however he didn’t, and just like that, an enemy was made.

With the iconic Black Widow alone at camp to simmer in her rage, JLP pulled out a rack of ribs and a beer which went to Shonee for $480. A heavy covered item went to Kirby for $500 after a bidding war with Sarah, which was revealed to be a big glass jar of popcorn. Similar to Ray’s famed one from Kirby’s OG season, which resulted in a massive advantage for the owner. Though seemingly had nothing this time. A club sandwich and a coke almost went to Shonee for $20, before Lisa jumped in and won it for $40. Another heavy, covered item went to Sarah which was a massive chocolate cake which she could not share. Oh and then it was over, just like that.

We followed Parvati back to camp where she was continuing to rage about Luke coming for her, feeling like he targeted her for being the biggest threat. Things quickly got better, however, when she found a massive jar of cookies, giving her the option to share them with the tribe or keep them to herself. With her grateful to keep them a secret. Well, until she tried to bury them and shattered the jar in the process. Though that did prove to be helpful, given an advantage was hidden amongst them, granting her the power to snatch someone’s idol at tribal council.

The tribe joined her just as she had finished disposing of all the evidence, allowing plenty of time for everyone to get to know each other. Tommi shared that he was hoping to get a win for Finland, while Luke wasn’t too concerned about making an enemy of Parv as the Aussies will stick together and have his back. Right on cue, we checked in with Kirby who was busy making friends with all of the World players. Luke then praised Cirie, while Parvati told Shonee she loves following her on Instagram, and honestly, this still feels like an absolute fever dream. Kirby finally caught up to Parvati, promising her that she is still keen to work with her, with the Black Widow pretending she is on the outs of her tribe and only survived because she was immune. Kirby assured her that unlike Luke, she isn’t scared of her, and wants to play with the best and as such, she wants to work with her and Cirie. With both of the US girls promising they were equally keen to work with her. Cirie threw out that she would love to work with Shonee, before Kirby said that is great, but she doesn’t think they can work with Sarah anymore as she is clearly threatened by the big players.

Kirby pulled Shonee aside to see how she was feeling about Sarah, with them agreeing that she clearly has no interest in working with them, and as such they were both keen to jump ship to Cirie and Parvati. Though Shonee cautioned that they need to make sure Sarah doesn’t get to them first. As such, we pivoted to Sarah telling Parvati that Kirby can’t be trusted and she doesn’t like threats and as such, they need to get rid of her ASAP. Parv and Cirie compared notes, realising that one of them was lying to them and while Parv wanted to work with Kirby – who she thinks is a Black Mamba – she got the vibe that Sarah’s story had more truth. Or at the very least, she was a mutual friend of David’s and mentioning him may have played into some biases. But I digress.

The newly formed Moorditj tribe met up with JLP for the first (true) individual immunity of the season – the iconic Last Gasp. Aka the one where they would each hold onto a grate in the middle of the ocean as the tide rises, with the last person left underwater winning. As the tide rose, the rain started to pour down, costing Lisa her place after just 10 minutes. She was quickly followed by Cirie, before Kirby and Parvati pulled the plug after 15 minutes, with Shonee not long after that. After 30 minutes the rain started to pelt down as a wild lightning storm raged around them. This cost Sarah her place, while the sitouts huddled under JLP’s platform and willed the challenge to just end. Which it did at 40 minutes, as the storm became too wild and production had to step in and send everyone back to shore as the lightning had started inching towards them in the water.

After the storm cleared, JLP announced that because they couldn’t finish the challenge, the four that were still in the game had two options. Agree to draw rocks for the necklace and one of them gets it, otherwise nobody is immune at the merge tribal council. And given it isn’t really a choice, they all drew rocks resulting in Tommi winning immunity. Technically.

They returned to camp just as the rain kicked back in, and while Tommi was delighted to be immune, he admitted that he definitely would have preferred to win it outright. Luke made jokes asking everyone to not vote him out, pulling Janine aside to come up with a plan to stick Aussie strong and take out Kass as the safest option. With that, they pulled Sarah and Shonee aside to float the idea, with Sarah begging them to say Lisa instead to safeguard around an idol play. While telling Lisa that Parvati was the target in the hope that she’d like to take out a massive threat and split from the World tribe. Speaking of Lisa, she was struggling to strategise, given the rain didn’t give them any opportunity to talk privately. Thankfully she, Kass and Tommi were able to make a run to throw out a plan, with World wanting to stick together and target someone that most of the Aussies wouldn’t want to go to rocks, settling on Janine. Which Cirie was equally keen on.

Sarah and Shonee caught up with Parvati and Cirie, with Sarah floating getting rid of Lisa. And while they all agreed, after Cirie and Sarah disappeared, Shonee lingered back with Parvati to give the public what they want, locking in an alliance and assuring us that she doesn’t care for the Aussies and is happy to take control. With Kirby joining them and throwing out Sarah’s name instead. And while Parvati was a little confused about Kirby turning on her former ride or die, she was also happy to vote out anyone that wasn’t her. Despite it being a massive red flag to blindside an ally. Cirie returned, happy to go wherever the numbers are, particularly after Shonee assured her that she would be down.

Cirie told us that all she really cares about is protecting the World tribe, so she looped in Lisa, Kass and Tommi on the plan, with the internationals concerned about doing whatever Kirby is saying because it could just as easily be a trap. Which Cirie agreed with, though pointed out that if Kirby is telling the truth and votes for Sarah, and the World tribe stick together, they can dictate who goes either way. Kirby meanwhile caught up with Luke and admitted that Parvati and Cirie are planning to go for Sarah, and she would be tempted to join them. Which panicked Luke, assuring her that when Sarah tries to turn on her, he will know and he will protect her, so she needs to hold firm with the Aussies for now. Finally, the Aussies came back together, agreeing to vote together and that they would be willing to go to rocks should they need to.

At tribal council Luke spoke about how hard it was to lose immunity due to mother nature, while Kass was excited they were all finally together. Despite hearing way too many names back at camp, begging the question, are the Aussies full of cracks or full of liars. Sarah meanwhile was just hopeful that the people she was speaking to were telling the truth. Kirby spoke about making new friends because it is a new game, and that they all should be looking at options if they want to make it to the end. While Janine reminded everyone how important tonight is at setting up the end game. Cirie suggested that it is less about choosing who to ride with and more about weeding out the toxic relationships. While Parv spoke about how desperately nobody wants to go to rocks, and as such, everyone has been struggling with the choice, given the OG tribes were even.

Shonee spoke about how great a merge is at saving people that were seemingly on the outs and admitted that she could be popular with the new people. Kirby spoke about the vote being about building trust, while Parv was happy to go to war with a rival alliance, should there be one. Lisa started to get spooked that the Aussies would play an idol for Sarah based on the conversations, with her, Cirie and Kass debating the merits of voting Kirby or Sarah, worried about the idol which is actually in Luke’s pocket and will only be played for him. With that the tribe voted and after three votes piled up on Janine, three landed on Kass before the rest came in for Sarah, sending her from the game as the Queen of the Jury.

Despite the heartbreak of finding herself booted from the game, the Aussie’s resident superfan took it in her stride, admitting that she didn’t play her best game this season and as such, wasn’t surprised Kirby turned on her. I pulled her in for a massive hug and thanked her for finally coming back to the game given, IMO, she was a glaring omission from every single returning player season we’ve had thus far. And while she was felled early, she more than proved me right. As such, we toasted her Mother status as we smashed a big ol’ Schnitzzarah Tilleke.

While I think I cursed her on a technicality, this is so damn good – and massive, it was hard for her to hold a grudge. You could argue it is kind of a mega parmi, given it is simply a bunch of schnitzels pushed together to form a base, slathered in sauce and topped with pizza fixin’s – to quote Jeff. But whatever name you choose to use, all that matters is that it is delicious.

Schnitzzarah Tilleke
Serves: 2 former models slash best friends.

Ingredients
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
1 cup flour
salt and pepper, to taste
2 eggs, whisked
2 chicken breasts, cut in half lengthways
olive oil
1 cup Amber Marinara Sauce
1 cup mozzarella cheese, grated
¼ cup pineapple pieces
3 mushrooms, sliced
½ a capsicum, sliced
½ a red onion, sliced
3 tbsp olives, sliced
shallots, to top

Method
Preheat the oven to 180C, and place the breadcrumbs in a dish, the flour in another with a good whack of salt and pepper, and the eggs in a third. Working one at a time, dip the chicken in the flour, followed by the egg and finally the breadcrumbs to full coat.

Pop the coated chicken onto a pizza tray and press together to form a circular disc, and spritz with some olive oil. Transfer to the oven and bake for 30 minutes, or until crisp and cooked through.

Once the schnitzel is cooked through, remove from the oven and smear with the marinara sauce. Sprinkle a little bit of cheese over the top, before dotting with the pineapple, mushrooms, capsicum and red onion, before giving another generous sprinkling of cheese. Transfer to the oven to bake for a further 15 minutes, or until the cheese is golden and crisp. Sprinkle with fresh shallots before devouring, like the Queen that you are.

Previously on Australian Survivor the World tribe desperately hunted for the key to the box they won during the opening challenge, with fate – or the Survivor Gods – shining down on our beloved Parvati. As she jagged it and used it into solidifying an alliance with the women. Sadly, upon opening the box they discovered that the power was knowing that JLP’s podium was home to an idol. And with them all assuming it was the only one on offer, Kass was able to find the camp idol without anyone noticing. At the immunity challenge, George tried to play mind games with the legends before Sarah dropped out of nowhere, due to Lisa being a challenge beast. Back at camp Sarah got jealous of Kirby growing closer with Shonee, so asked Kirby to vote her out as a test of loyalty. Sadly for her Shonee did what she does best, rallying the troops to take revenge on George and despite Janine trying to dump some votes on Shon, our queen sent George from the game.

Back at camp Janine quickly apologised to Shonee for putting votes on her, with her being an icon and not even caring. She spoke about how funny it was that she was able to cut George before he joined the 100 day club, capping his three season run at 99 days. Oh and while she said she wasn’t annoyed about Janine and Luke, she told us that she thought they were stupid for dumping votes on her given they are already the clear minority. But you know, she is feeling like a King now that she has snipped off George, so she won’t even let it get to her. Plus, Luke was so glad George was gone that they clearly now had something in now.

The next day we checked in with the World tribe where Lisa was busy doing laundry with Parvati and ugh, I love to see this for Lisa. And TBH Parvati, proving my ‘you can’t win with the same game twice’ theory wrong, given she is playing Micronesia again and dominating. She told us that the women are working together and will use the tribal council idol to their advantage when they need to. As such, she caught up with Cirie and they agreed that while the boys need to go, she knows Tony is a massive target and as such, she needs him around as a shield specifically. And Tommi is such a sweet, helpful guy, that he is just too likeable to stay. Speaking of the boys, they were busy pledging their undying loyalty to each other, with Tony planning for them to join up with the Aussies after the merge.

As that was happening, the women were joining up to plot their next steps, with Lisa and Kass trying to put the target on Tony as the bigger threat – aka because they are secretly aligned with Tommi – while Parvati clearly tried to keep Tony from being targeted, assuring them he will stick with the majority no matter what, so they are safest with him. The problem was Lisa, however, clearly pointing out that while Tony may be happy to go with the majority, it can’t be the end point of his game. Particularly as a two time winner, so that is not something they cannot trust. Cirie thankfully saw that both Lisa and Parvati being so locked in could lead to a little bit of tension, so reminded everyone they don’t have to worry about it right now and they can come to a decision together when they do need to worry. Splitting everyone up and nipping the tension in the bud.

Back at the Aussie camp Janine was still stressed about begging Luke to throw a couple of votes on Shonee to protect herself. And while it may have painted a target on them, it did lead to her and Luke pledging to go to the end together, so that is something. And the King of the Jungle is always ready to do something wild to get there. Kirby meanwhile was bathing under the watchful eye of Sarah, while the latter grew more and more paranoid that Kirby was angry with her and as such, she knew she needed to diversify her options. Sarah went to talk to Janine, suggesting that maybe now is the time to get rid of Kirby given she is giving off weird vibes. And while she quickly changed her mind to suggesting Shonee, it gave Luke and Janine all the ammunition they needed to make a play for Kirby.

That night as everyone slept, Janine pulled Kirby aside to let her know what Sarah said and while Kirby had not lost her trust in Sarah before, she sure did after speaking to Janine. And was now ready to take a shot.

The tribes joined up with Jonathan in the jungle where they were gagged to learn that tribal immunity is not up for grabs. Instead each tribe would compete amongst themselves for an individual immunity necklace, as all of them are going to tribal council tonight. As for the challenge, they would each sit and hold a block against a pole with just their legs. Aka something perfect for our pilates queens. Sadly Lisa wasn’t able to compete medically, however, as the rest of the tribemates lined up. Almost instantly Luke started to struggle, while Parvati and Kirby whispered to each other about wanting to work together at the merge. Luke meanwhile sounded like he was taking a massive shit before dropping at just four and a half minutes. As everyone spoke about Shonee lasting over an hour the last time she did a variation of the challenge, Kirby dropped at the fifteen minute mark, leaving Shonee, Sarah and Janine to fight for their necklace. After twenty minutes JLP decided to make things spicy and forced everyone to put their hands behind their heads, which cost Janine and Shonee, handing Sarah immunity.

Let us pause here to remember that Shonee literally had a baby a few months ago and did that. She is both a mother, and mother. That is Queen behaviour.

The entire World tribe was still going at 45 minutes, so JLP made everyone go to a single foot, while the other one just had to hang in space. Which cost Tommi almost instantly. Tony was next to go at 53 minutes followed by Cirie, leaving Parvati and Kass to battle for the final necklace. And after an hour, Parvati suggested they make a little deal, agreeing to drop during the next endurance challenge if Kass drops for her now. Which Kass promptly refused. They continued to battle for over an hour and twenty four minutes, before Kass struggled too much, agreeing to the deal before dropping, handing Parvati the other immunity. Before sending the tribes back to camp, JLP casually dropped that despite both tribe going to tribal council, only one person would be going home.

We followed the Aussies back to camp where Janine was grateful that nobody was giving off challenge beast out of the Aussies, so the World tribe wouldn’t view them as threats come the merge. Kirby meanwhile was gutted that Sarah was immune, given that voting out her number one was her only plan. That being said, talk turned to what the twist could be with Shonee telling everyone that they had a double tribal council in All Stars where the two voted out would then face off in a fire challenge, with the loser of that going home. Shonee then told Luke that she would be voting for Janine, given she voted for her. And given Luke did not want that, he decided the only logical thing would be to woo Kirby to their side and get rid of Shonee instead. And while Kirby hated the idea, she knew she had to keep her options open. After catching up and locking in the Shonee vote, Kirby caught up with Shonee and agreed that they would both like to take out Janine. Unless they all get to vote as one, in which case they’d love to all take out an international instead.

We checked in with the World tribe where they were all speculating what would be happening, with them speculating that maybe only those who are immune would be voting. Parvati whispered to Tony that if that is the case, he is safe and to just relax. Everyone split up to have conversations assuming it is something else, leaving Tony alone. This made him super paranoid about what could happen, so he tried to stick to everyone like glue so they couldn’t say his name. Parvati and Cirie assured him that Tommi was the target, just as Kass and Lisa were busy trying to protect Tommi and get rid of Tony. Agreeing that while they trust Cirie and want to trust Parvati, they only truly can trust each other. Kass approached Cirie in the hope that she could sway her to their side, and while Cirie admitted to us that she would prefer to keep the Americans safe, she would prefer to keep the women’s alliance together even more. And if it means sacrificing Tony, so be it. Because Cirie was also concerned about how tribal council could actually play out.

Cirie and Tony were busy catching up in the shelter with the latter growing more and more sketchy about the vibes. As such, Tony disappeared to talk to Tommi and let him know that Parvati said that he was the target. And that all the women will tell Tommi that Tony is the target. The two-time winner then realised that Parvati and Cirie clearly know where the key to the locked box is, as everyone had appeared to have just forgotten about it. And as such, he would just pretend he has an idol and cause as much chaos as possible.

The tribes came together at tribal council where Shonee told everyone that she believes each tribe would be voting someone out and that then the duo would face off in a fire challenge to stay. Jonathan didn’t drag it out, however, quickly sharing that it was not what was happening. Instead, each tribe would get to pull rocks to decide who would face off in a fire challenge and the winner of that challenge would win immunity for their tribe while the other would vote someone out. And given Sarah was shitting herself when she drew the white rock, things were not looking good for the Aussies. Even though she was up against Cirie, who famously lost the game after losing the fire challenge in her first season. So maybe all hope wasn’t lost.

Sarah and Cirie took their places at the stations with Sarah sweetly checking if Cirie was in danger before they got started. Both of them got to work, with Tony desperately coaching Cirie while Kirby was looking after things for Sarah. While Shonee looked ready to burst into tears as Sarah struggled, she was ultimately the first to get a spark. And while her methods were unconventional, she managed to get a fire and quickly built around it, filling tribal council with smoke before Cirie eventually got a spark. Sadly for her, however, the swing method didn’t work for her, as Sarah’s fire was furious, licking at the rope and sending the Aussies back to camp.

Side note, if Cirie makes fire in the final four of Survivor 50 and Sarah’s method gets her the win, we all owe Sarah our life.

Once they exited, Cirie spoke about how disappointed she was to have caused their tribe to lose someone. Kass joked about spending too much time strategising, rather than practising fire. While Tony was disappointed to now be voting someone out, he didn’t really get to strategise, while Tommi felt like the immunity challenge was a waste of time. Which Parvati joked she would beg to differ. Tony then got up to start whispering and when everyone told him they didn’t know who they were voting for, Tony tied his shoe around his neck and assured them all that he would be safe no matter what, as would the people he spoke to. The girls then got up to talk things through, with Parvati assuring them that he was just making a big play and there is no reason to worry.

Everyone came back together with Tony asking if Parvati told all the women that she had the key, and while she denied it – and telling him, if she did have it – he eventually admitted he wasn’t told, but he saw her with it. As Parvati and Tony argued back and forth, wishing things didn’t have to be like this. The internationals got up to talk about what to do, agreeing if they all just vote for Tony they would be safe. Cirie joined them, with everyone agreeing to get rid of Tony. However when she sat down, Tommi assured Lisa and Kass that he would be voting for Cirie and if they joined him, they would also be completely fine. Everyone sat back down with Tony and Parvati continuing to fight before agreeing on one thing – that they are both well and truly ready to vote.

And vote they did, before Tony got up to pretend to play an idol, as Cirie whispered to Parvati to go snatch the podium idol if he did play one. Thankfully he didn’t, as the women held firm and the rest of the votes piled up on Tony and sent him from the game. As Parvati lingered back to snatch the idol, as JLP held her torch for her. Like a damn icon.

As Tony arrived at Loser Lodge, I pulled him in for a massive hug and thanked him for being so entertaining. And more importantly this season, for becoming mother. Because while all the women this season have got their dues for being mother, Tony has also been mother. While he was a little bit confused about what I was talking about, he could tell it was meant as the ultimately compliment, so took as such. As while I was always rooting for someone else in his previous seasons, this time I truly fell in love with him. And while he was the fourth boot, I would argue he once again cemented his legacy. Because there is no way a two-time winner is ever getting near a final tribal council again. So he had to settle for a famous Negroni Sbagliatony Vlachos.

While the world fell in love with this delightful drink thanks to Emma D’arcy, it is easy to understand why she fell for it. A little sweet, a little bitter and oh so refreshing, it is the perfect thing to toast the game of the greatest male Survivor player of all time.

Serves: 1.

Ingredients
ice
60ml sweet vermouth
60ml campari
60ml prosecco
orange slice, to serve

Method
Fill an old-fashioned glass with ice.

Top with vermouth and campari, and stir.

Top with prosecco, give a final stir, garnish with an orange slice and down. Repeat as required.

George Mladenoodle Salad

Previously on Australian Survivor, Parvati was desperate to find the key to open the locked box they won at the opening challenge. That being said, she was more keen to form a women’s alliance and ugh, I love that for her. Tony meanwhile was hoping they would stay US strong, though knew he and Tommi could be in trouble, so pulled out the win at the immunity challenge. Back at the Aussie camp Kirby took control and convinced Sarah and Shonee to get rid of David, while George and David planned to get rid of Shonee, David, Janine and Luke wanted to get rid of George and George wanted to get rid of Janine. As such chaos ensued, all afternoon and at tribal council, before the vote finished up tied between David and George, with a solitary vote for Janine, before David was booted from the game on the revote.

Making Hayley the only returning winner to survive a tribal council. Though to be fair, she was also voted out on her winning season, but I digress.

Back at camp everyone was excited by the drama at tribal council, with Janine and Luke quickly praising Kirby for pulling off the move and quickly downplaying how they felt about David. George tried to get under Luke’s skin, telling everyone he was told to vote against Janine. Sadly for him, Luke is not a newbie, and swiftie called him out for potentially voting out Shonee. And while he was quick to downplay it, you know that was all Shonee needed to hear to make him her number one priority again.

The next day the tribe were tidying up around camp. And by that, went hunting for idols under the guise of tidying. Luke admitted to us that he was feeling alone without David, and given he completely burnt George, he knew that he needed to find a way forward. Thankfully though, he had the godmother in his corner, so they got to work finding a way into the majority. George meanwhile was catching up with Shonee, assuring her that he was never planning to vote for her and admitted that he owes her, so will champion to take out whoever she wants. While all Shonee could worry about was being fixated like Stevie, or worse, being Sue’s Big Move. Shonee pulled Sarah and Kirby aside to pledge her undying loyalty, talking to them about how voting for David was to prove loyalty, given she would have preferred to get rid of George instead. Sarah on the other hand was regretting voting for David, now worried that she was being tested. And that Kirby seemed to be just as loyal to Shonee as she was to her.

Over at the World tribe Parvati, Tony and Cirie were busy whipping up a pot of coffee for the tribe and everything was kumbaya. Tony though was rightly worried, knowing that the women are clearly in control, and while the Americas are equal, he is still sceptical they will stick together. Parvati turned her attentions back to the box, with Tony suggesting they all go hunting for a key and use it to the advantage of the tribe. However when Cirie questioned whether it could really benefit ‘us’ rather than one of them, they all split up to find the key solo. Everyone was wandering aimlessly trying to find the needle in the haystack before Parvati snatched it out of nowhere. After literally standing in front of it for a few minutes. She immediately shared it with Kass and Cirie, before Cirie tried to open it. Just as Tony arrived, leaving them trying to relock it before even catching a peek inside.

As he innocently asked if they had any luck, the girls tried to lie about what was happening to get him away from camp long enough to lock it, with them finally successful. Only for him to stick to the box like glue. This led to Cirie enlisting Lisa to take Tony to the well to keep him distracted long enough for Cirie and Parvati to open it again. Which they did, only to be super disappointed to discover it was just a clue to a hidden immunity idol, which is conveniently located at the base of Jonathan’s podium at tribal council. And while that kinda sucks, she is grateful to have three loyal, strong women wanting to work with her and move mountains. And while she relaxed by the ocean, Cirie, Lisa and Kass went for a walk where Kass wandered off and jagged the camp idol without anyone noticing. Like a damn queen.

We headed back to the Aussie tribe where George and Kirby were catching up, with the former warning Kirby to keep a close eye on Sarah as she can’t be trusted. While Sarah was busy chatting to Janine about being unsure whether she made the right decision at the previous tribal council. Thankfully Sarah and Kirby caught up to clear the air, with Sarah warning her that while they are good with Shonee, she knows Shonee does not trust her and as such, she wants her gone eventually. And while they are besties, Sarah told us that she and Kirby are fighting in her head and Kirby now needs to prove her loyalty to her by getting rid of Shonee. Now, not eventually. That night Sarah caught up with Luke and Janine, looping them in on her plan to get rid of Shonee and save them, and ugh, Sarah girl, you in danger. At least, with me being a fan after this vote.

After all that preamble, my love Jonathan finally made his debut for the immunity challenge where each tribemember would each hold a sandbag tethered to a trough, with the last tribe left standing without getting wet snatching victory. Aka the group version of Parv’s go to challenge. Lisa started to fatigue early with Tommi being an absolute sweetheart and helping hold her’s up as long as possible. George tried to start a little banter with Tony to get him to blow a kiss before straight up spilling that he almost went home the night before and that the tribe is fractured. Much to the absolute rage of his entire tribe. After half an hour, Cirie accidentally let go of a bag and went to the sit out bench, leading to them all trying to balance the extra bag while poor Lisa looked like she was about to faint. They hit the one hour mark and sweet Lisa continued to hold on, as George told Parvati he gave his tribe a run down of her greatness as everyone continued to struggle. Sarah almost dropped her bag, causing the tribe to nearly shit their pants, before they ultimately hit the 1 hour 40 minute. Which is what cost the Aussies with Sarah actually dropping out of nowhere, presumably as they didn’t have Parv hyping them up like she was Lisa.

Back at camp George spoke about how strong Parvati is before they split up to start scrambling, with George pitching he, Shonee, Sarah and Kirby split the vote between Janine and Luke. And they convince the two of them to turn on each other. Which is bold, but also stupid, as they could just tie things up on a third option, allowing Sarah or Shonee to flip. Oh and it also pisses people off for acting like a bully when you could just vote them out without trauma. After he spoke to Luke and annoyed the shit out of him, Shonee pulled Luke aside to float the idea of blindsiding George, given he would clearly flip to the World players at the first opportunity. And he is a bully and a liability. With that, Shonee took George to the well to allow Luke the time to talk to Janine, Sarah and Kirby about getting rid of George, since it would mean they would go into the merge united, even though Sarah was nervous about leaving Shonee in the game without a ride or die, as she could find one on the other tribe. Which I guess is also right, though given she is close to Kirby, she could also form a trio and take you to the end over Luke and Janine, but whatever.

Everyone reunited with George, who was clearly feeling super confident in his level of control, calling paths George Street and suggesting they are living on Shonee’s Beach. So when he went openly hunting for an idol, the rest of the tribe talked about how annoyed they are by his perceived control. Shonee though did not want him to feel like he was in danger, so went hunting with him to keep him as relaxed as possible and damn, he is feeling good. George then tried to speak to Luke and Janine, telling them they have no choice but to vote for each other. Which obviously pissed off our business icon into being locked on the plan. Janine though was worried about a potential idol, so suggested that maybe she should throw a vote on Shonee instead as contingency. As such, she approached Kirby and Sarah to make sure they were okay with that. Which they were, Sarah in particular, thought it was music to her ears, using it as one final opportunity to try and convince Kirby to get rid of Shonee. And ugh, Sarah, please stop, I was rooting for you.

At tribal council Kirby spoke about the confusion at the previous tribal council, blaming David for all of it. With Shonee quickly jumping in to agree, talking about how the tribe were now solely focused on locking in numbers and keeping things loyal at the merge. Sarah was hopeful tonight was an easy vote, though was concerned she jinxed it by saying that. With Shonee assuring her she will be fine. Kirby admitted she was still figuring out how to play a faster game with these all time greats. Janine then outed George for telling her that she has to vote for Luke, with George happily talking about how he is honest to a fault. This spooked Janine who started to whisper to Luke to change his vote to Shonee to protect her from George’s idol, while the latter continued to be so cocky and bold that everyone looked more and more frustrated by his antics.

He then reminded them that he is the best asset to navigate the World tribe come the merge, and was confident he would be able to earn them the majority should they merge tomorrow. And while Janine called him out for trying to earn the affection of their rivals, he assured her that he is ready to rule with an iron fist. With that the tribe voted – Shonee honouring her 50th tribal council, by casting a vote for George – and thankfully Shonee came out on top as George was mercifully sent from the game. With him even happy that Shonee was able to get her revenge.

Given he was so happy that Shonee was able to get her revenge, I pulled him in for a massive hug, finally admitting to being a fan of his game. While he is full of bravado and arrogance, it is because he is acutely aware that he is making a TV show first and foremost and as such, knows to swing for the fences. And while he didn’t really have much space to move this season, he was still able to cement his legend status. Which goes perfectly with a big bowl of George Mladenoodle Salad.

This slightly tweaked version of the Chang’s Crispy Noodle Salad is honestly such a nostalgic delight. It reminds me of ‘90s barbecues and sticky summers, and honestly, it is the first salad that made me think, maybe, just maybe you could make friends with salad.

George Mladenoodle Salad
Serves: 2 power bottoms, or 6 side (serves)s.

Ingredients
¼ cup white vinegar
2 tbsp muscovado sugar
1 tbsp soy sauce
2 tsp sesame oil
½ cup olive oil
½ wombok, shredded
6 shallots, sliced
½ cup slivered almonds, toasted
1 packet Chang’s Original Fried Noodles

Method
Combine the vinegar, muscovado, soy sauce, sesame and olive oil in a bowl, and whisk until well combined.

In a large bowl, combine the cabbage, shallots, almonds and noodles and give a decent toss. If you’re serving straight away, pour over the dressing and toss to combine before serving and devouring.

If you’re not eating straight away, hold off mixing in the noodles and dressing to maintain optimal crunch.

David Genutella Sundaes

Australian Survivor, Australian Survivor: All Stars, Australian Survivor: Champions vs. Contenders (2019), Dessert, Snack, Survivor: Australia V The World, Sweets, TV, TV Recap

Previously on Australian Survivor, seven icons from Australia lined up against seven legends of the game from around the world. With six wins between them. Seven if you count DONDI, which is kinda-sorta cannon, now. In any event, given Shonee and Kirby weren’t overly connected on the Aussie tribe, they quickly aligned. With Shonee focused on getting revenge against George (and probs David, given she loves a revenge arc). Knowing he was screwed, George proposed working with David and Luke, however the duo had zero interest. And after David beasted his way to victory in the immunity challenge, it didn’t really matter. Yet. The global players were out for blood with the US players, with Rob bossily pushing for Parvati to go. Sadly for him, Lisa wanted to work with Cirie and convinced the global faction to band with the US to get rid of him instead, making sure Parvati’s birthday was saved.

The next day we checked in with Luke who was busy being a millenial, telling everyone that he has taken up bird watching. While he said that, however, he was obviously hunting for idols. And dishing out his stolen bananas to his new bestie Shonee and perma-bestie David. Even though he knows he can’t actually trust the latter. In any event, he jagged the idol and just like that – RIP, you terrible masterpiece – he became the most powerful player in the game. Well, for now. We all saw Parv Parv at tribal council, so an idol can’t really stop her.

Speaking of which, we checked in with the World tribe where everyone was rather sombre post tribal council. Wait, no, it was just that they hadn’t had their coffeeeeee. Everyone was thrilled to have blindsided Rob and to have created some peace. And Parvati was ready to take advantage of the murky alliances to officially take control. As such, she took the girls off to bathe in the ocean – aka align – while Tony and Tommi were busy working away at camp. Tony admitted that he knows that Parvati and Cirie work best when rallying the women, and as such, tried to figure out a way he and Tommi could save themselves. While the women vibed and ugh, crown Parv now.

Back at the Aussie tribe, David was busy talking about having the biggest target in the game, though was grateful to have three really tight friends on the island in the form of Luke, Janine and Sarah. Not wanting to rest on his laurels though, he caught up with Kirby to see what she was thinking in the hopes of wooing her to his side. And take out George and Shonee first. Sadly for him, Kirby’s closest friend in the game is Shonee, so she caught up with the duo with George suggesting Janine is probably the one that needs to go first. Which instantly spooked Kirby, who felt David was the bigger threat. He then explained that David is too well insulated and his friends will protect him, so taking out Janine will weaken his numbers but not scare him.

Kirby continued to shine, catching up with David’s friends one by one, with Luke talking about going for him eventually, while Shonee reminded her and Sarah that getting rid of George is always an option. Sarah opened up about knowing David outside of the game, both modelling in Western Australia. That being said, she wanted to play things differently this time by having a solid single ally rather than playing both sides. That night, she caught up with Kirby by the fire to not necessarily lock her in as her number one, though to admit that she had come around to getting rid of David first.

Obviously this manifested JLP for the immunity challenge where the tribes would face off using a battering ram to smash a wall, carry it through a keyhole, load it with blocks and walk it through a course before stacking them on an A frame and knocking them off with sandbags. The tribes both started smashing their wall at the same time, while Tony dominated the wall strategically and got the World tribe out to a hefty lead. Lisa then coached them through the keyhole, as the Aussies finally made it through the wall. The Aussies tried to close the gap as Tony continued to MVP the challenge for World, who had all their blocks stacked before the Aussies even made it to the end. Sadly, he kinda sucked at throwing, though thankfully, he had plenty of time to get his eye in. After he fatigued, Tommi jumped in and quickly knocked off a couple of blocks. The Aussies finally joined the fray with David coming close to closing the gap. Sadly for him and Luke, however, the lead was too much to overcome as Tony secured immunity for the World tribe.

Back at camp David quickly got to work trying to lock in an alliance with Kirby, suggesting George as the target instead. George meanwhile was talking to Sarah about feeling like he has to bend the knee to David. Luke and Janine caught up with David and Kirby, with him suggesting they split their votes between George and Shonee. Sadly for the alleged Golden God, Kirby knew David had the numbers while Geroge had none and as such, she wanted to get rid of David instead. She caught up with Shonee, George and Sarah to talk through the options, with them all keen to get rid of him because yolo, big moves are more fun. No joke. Sadly while George was feeling this alliance, he pulled Luke and David aside to let them know that David is on the block. And that the only way to save him is working together with Janine to get rid of Shonee instead.

This sent David in a little bit of a spiral, while Sarah desperately tried to keep her distance from him to make sure her loyalty was clearly with Kirby. That being said, she felt bad and pulled Janine aside to let David know that he is in trouble and there is nothing more she can do. Unless he has an idol. The madness continued as George told Kirby that he threw out Shonee’s name to the other side, with her hilariously dunking on him and letting him know the actual plan was to split between him and Shonee. As he started to simmer, David approached and the duo awkwardly got more and more frustrated with each other as Kirby hilariously smirked at the drama.

Even after George threw her squarely under the bus to David, right in front of her.

When it was just the two of them, Kirby confronted him and fired up, making her realise that maybe George did need to go instead. David meanwhile was lamenting his place in the game with Luke, before confronting Kirby in the shallows, as she hilariously chilled out by herself. He asked why she is leading the vote against him, while she pointed out that she is not leading anything. David started talking about his physical strength and how desperately they need him for them to have the numbers at the merge. Sensing it wasn’t going well, he spoke to Janine who assured him Kirby is definitely leading the charge against him. As such, he focused on wooing Sarah to his side. Bless her, however, she was not interested in voting with anyone but Kirby, so did the hail mary for him, and suggested flipping it to George. Which she swiftly did, it seems.

After Sarah told them the vote was now on George, Shonee caught up with Kirby to find out what was happening. And while she was surprised, she was more than happy to snip George. George and Sarah joined them, with George suggesting they get rid of Janine instead to guarantee they all survive the night. And when Luke joined them and assured them he’d happily vote for Janine, a third plan seemed to be locked in.

We finally arrived at tribal council where George admitted he was disappointed to not be having the night off. Kirby said that while her OG season was chaotic, that was amateur hour compared to the afternoon she just had, which was an absolute nightmare. While she is just a newbie. David called her out for playing just as hard as everyone else on the beach, and that she isn’t giving herself enough credit. As she is really in control of the vote tonight. George spoke about the competing priorities amongst the tribe before talking about the fast pace of the game. Shonee and Kirby started to whisper, confirming the vote was still for David before they looped in Sarah and George. And ugh, you could almost see Sarah’s heart break as she realised her promise to David would be broken. Luke joked about Survivor being like riding a bike and that he loved the mess.

As that was happening, David and Janine whispered about potentially convincing George to work with them to get rid of Shonee instead. They then got called out for whispering, with Janine sending David and George aside to talk. While David was warning him that they are truly screwed without each other, the other five spoke about potentially locking in a George vote instead. As George, ugh, quickly agreed to get rid of Shonee with David.

The boys returned to their seats as Kirby looked on at George irate. David then filled Luke in on the plan, as Janine let her boys whisper. Shonee rightly started to get nervous as Kirby tried to assure her that she is safe and they will all get rid of David, so she just needed to relax. Shonee then spoke openly about her fear that the two people that voted her out previously could be working together. David then suggested he, Janine and Luke flip back to George, Luke told George they were voting Janine and fucking hell, I actually have no idea how this is playing out. With that the tribe voted and hilariously, things were split evenly between George and David, with a single little outlier for Janine from George. Which thankfully didn’t bite him in the bum as the tribe re-voted – this time without David and George – and the girls stuck together to send the Golden God from the game.

Despite announcing his retirement from playing, David took his boot in stride, knowing that as the only winner on their beach, he was always kinda, sorta screwed. That and he won millions and millions of dollars on DONDI, so yolo. As such, I pulled him into a hug, feeling his rippling muscles against my chest as I shed a surprising tear that we will never see David in his sarong again. As such, I toasted his demise and wished him luck in his future endeavours – in a hollow, still team JLP manner – with a glorious David Genutella Sundaes.

The first thing I think of when I think of David is nut. Nutella, that is. I also think of how good he would look in the Chris Evans version of the whipped cream bikini, so tried my luck by whipping him up a sundae. And if it went nowhere, at least we got something delicious. Velvety nutella ganache, sweet cherries and the warm crunch of nuts, this is truly delightful.

David Genutella Sundaes
Serves: 2 dear friends, that could be lovers, because you can’t be lovers if you can’t be friends.

Ingredients
⅓ cup double cream
60g dark chocolate
½ cup nutella
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups Vanilla Ice Cream
⅓ cup toasted hazelnuts, roughly chopped
whipped cream, to taste
4 maraschino cherries
hundreds and thousands, for sprinklin’

Method
Pop the double cream in a saucepan over medium heat and bring to heat until it is almost boiling. Remove from the heat and whisk in the chocolate until it has melted and the sauce is smooth. Stir in the nutella, followed by the vanilla, and remove from the heat.

To assemble, divide the ice cream between two bowls, sprinkle with some nuts, pour over the ganache, dollop the whipped cream and dot with the cherries, before topping with sprinkles. And devouring.

Previously on Australian Survivor JLP has been marooning every day Aussies, a healthy dose of C-list celebrities, dozens of iconic athletes, an award winning actress and some OG Survivor legends in the islands of Samoa, Fiji and a brief stint in the Queensland outback after that little thing known as the pandemic. In that time we have crowned a Samoan Sea-Witch, a Cookie Monster, an Olympic legend, the aforementioned award winning actress, a Golden God, a doctor of pain, the then-husband of the icon that should have won a season, a non-medalling Olympian, a Feras Wheel and most recently, a Jungle Rat. And to celebrate hitting a decade on air, JLP is pulling out more than just his guns to celebrate – an international showdown, the likes of which have never been done before.

Well, except by Ru, but I digress.

Presumably in an ode to RuPaul, we opened this very special season – which will also mark my retirement alongside JLP – with some ASMR lover from JLP. That is until we pivoted to an airport runway where, presumably, the world players were trying to land as Shonee made her iconic return, fresh from mat leave and back in her iconic red dress. Luke then escaped from the luggage cart – I shit you not – ready to create chaos and win. Welp, I am already wrong – Sarah and Kirby exited the plane with the latter ready to take on the best and dominate. Business queen Janine arrived to give us a boost, by way of Steve Tyler’s look while George is far more likeable with a dad bod, though in the battle with Shonee, he is out. Oh and David is back, fresh from his record breaking victory in the US. Driving the army truck out of the airport to collect his tribemates and take them to start the game.

The World tribe, meanwhile, came in Mad Max style, by way of the American South led by two time winner Tony, Queen Cirie and fellow Black Widow Parvati, who ideally will be coming out to get her second win. And in her eyes, to get redemption for her loss in Samoa. We met Kass, a runner-up from Quebec, perma-reigning Lisa from NZ, cute little Tommi from Finland and the absolutely dominant Rob from South Africa. The latter, ready to put the Gods and Kings from Australia back in their place. Which is hilarious.

All the heavy vehicles presumably parked somewhere before the tribes met JLP by the shore to officially kick off the game. With the Aussies rightly gagged to see Cirie, Parvati and Rob’s guns. Shonee spoke about holding the Australian record for most days played as she and Parvati winked at each other, immediately flooding my basement and making me question whether I am straight. Tony was sad to be called a two time winner given it makes him a target, before Kirby admitted that she doesn’t know who anyone is given she hasn’t watched the show. Though she is hoping it will be an advantage. Tony admitted he is ready to lose a limb to snatch the crown, while Cirie was non-committal about finally jagging a win, though agreed she would happily lose a limb trying.

The tribes threw on their buffs before JLP put them through their paces in the first challenge of the season, where they would race down a slide, scramble under a net and toss their sacks at a bell. And the victor of each battle would get to pick from a shelf of supplies which included champagne and a mystery box, which immediately got Parv excited. After the World tribe were delighted to see George in his Aussie speedos, David and Rob were first to face off. Well, after David tried to woo Rob into a cross-tribal alliance knowing they were both huge targets as they slowly walked up the stairs. Sadly it wasn’t enough to take out the win in the challenge, as Rob won and collected the mystery box for the world. Tommi and George were up next with George, shockingly taking out the win and collecting the flint. With Lisa calmly calling him insufferable, like a damn queen. Kirby quickly defeated Parv and jagged a fruit basket, Luke beat Tony and won a tarp before Cirie won pillows over Sarah and Kass beat Janine for coffee and tea. Then came the battle we’ve all been waiting for, Lisa and Shonee, with Lisa taking out the win and scoring the bubbly.

We followed the World tribe back to camp where Parvati quickly mentioned she was excited to open the box. Sadly for them, however, they needed to find a key to do it. After pouring a champagne, Cirie led the tribe through introductions while Parvati worried about the fact the US players were outnumbered by the global players, given that it could be an easy alliance. Parvati was also worried about Tony and where things stood between them, so pulled him aside to talk about whether they can trust each other, while Tony was just nervous about the appearance of the US trio all being too close. Which is exactly what the World players were worrying about. Rob pulled them off one at a time to talk about targeting the Americans, even telling them that David wants to target them too, so they would easily have an ally come the merge. Sadly for them, while Lisa agreed to their face, it was clear that she is going to align with Cirie as she straight up sobbed about how much of a fan of hers she is.

As such, she went collecting logs with Cirie and admitting to being her biggest fan leading to them pledging their undying loyalty to each other and ugh, I honestly can’t believe we are watching this magic.

We checked in with the Aussies where Sarah asked everyone to admit who they have played with, while George started to shit himself because his only past relationship is with Shonee. As such, he pulled her aside to try and clear the air. And while it appeared that everything was all good between them, she confirmed to us that she has no interest in working with him. Ever. She admitted that this time, she plans to avoid having any ride or die relationships like her previous games. She and Kirby then caught up and given they both have clean slates in the game, locked in a secret alliance, and ugh, I live. Almost as much as I do for Shonee’s fixation on getting revenge on George in as ishonic a manner possible.

As Luke went hunting for idols, we checked in with David who was feeling rather exposed as the only winner on the tribe. Though given he can’t hide, he decided to play harder. He went hunting for idols, as did George. Knowing they are both massive targets, they realised they may have no other option but to align with each other, along with Luke, to protect themselves. And while I hate it, the fact that David was keen to name their alliance the Power Bottoms, I am keen for it. Wait, it is another welp moment – sadly for Geroge, David and Luke had no actual interest in working with him and ugh, I almost feel bad for him and the Power Bottoms that could have been.

Back at the World camp the girls sipped on champagne as Rob desperately worked to start a fire. After gassing himself out, Parv took him for a walk to try and find a new ally, awkwardly trying to forage mushrooms. Which feels too soon for all Australians. Before they picked any, Parv and Rob spoke about how beautiful each other’s eyes are. Sadly for him, she had seen him and David talking at the challenge, so leveraged her Deal or No Deal Island bond and told him she knows who he is because David told her he wanted to work with him while filming that show. And while Rob promised not to tell anyone that she and David were on another show together, it feels like this is the moment that is make or break for one of them. And while Rob is confident that the World alliance will win out, he is already underestimating Lisa.

The next day we learnt it was Parvati’s birthday and to celebrate, she was hoping for an immunity win. Because if she makes it to Day 3, she will be tied with Boston Rob for most days played at 152. Right on cue, we pivoted to the immunity challenge where the tribes would race to push a staircase down a walkway to climb a wall, then build another staircase with massive blocks and then two people would climb to the top and shoot coconut at tiles. With the first tribe to knock out eight tiles snatching the win. The World tribe got out to an early lead thanks to Rob’s massive guns. Sadly for them, the Aussies closed the gap while building their stairs with the lead going back and forth until the Aussies made it to the top. This gave David and Luke a massive advantage shooting their (coco)nuts. They quickly knocked out two before Tony and Rob joined the frey, with Tony closing the gap. David and Luke then knocked out two more, followed by one for Tony, before David and Luke pulled ahead again and David ultimately secured victory for the Aussies.

As Rob asked David to find the key for the box and openly spoke out their previous chat, as Parvati watched on closely.

Back at camp the tribe were gutted about their loss, though Rob admittedly wasn’t too concerned, given the single country alliance has the numbers and could knock off whoever they wanted. The four of them caught up with Parvati in the ocean with him desperate to get her to name a name, as she straight up refused, before Rob named Cirire. Though given she could sense Rob was in control, Parvati wisely mentioned that looking at the US trio as allies is silly, and everyone needs to talk before tribal council. After Rob pulled them aside to switch the vote to Parvati, he caught up with Cirie and Tony to talk about the fact the global players are scared of the US people being aligned and as such, Cirie’s only hope is to vote for Parvati. And while she agreed to get rid of her, Cirie assured us that she would never turn on her.

It came back to the two of Parvati and Rob, with Parvati hilariously calling out Rob for bulldozing his allies and while she thought the two of them were allies, she told him that she couldn’t name anyone else because he is aligned with everyone. He then admitted that he can’t name anyone else because ultimately it doesn’t matter, which hilariously led to her clocking that he was voting for her. They then caught up with Cirie, with Rob laughing about how chill Cirie is and ugh, he does not know who he is dealing with. Cirie then caught up with Lisa who told her that Rob is the one throwing out her name, and the duo agreed they desperately want him out. Though Lisa admitted to us that getting rid of Parv could actually help bring her and Cirire together, so she was still open to it. Kass and Lisa caught up about Rob’s fixation on Parvati, as she hilariously walked up and got them to admit that she was the target as she swiftly convinced them to join her in blindsiding Rob instead.

Parvati looped in Cirie on the fact the women were keen to band together to get rid of Rob, while Tony spoke to them for less than a minute to lock in his vote with them. Lisa meanwhile caught up with Tommi and Kass to see what they were thinking, however sadly, the producers didn’t let us know which way they were planning to go, given they are in control.

At tribal council Parvati spoke about how challenging it is to find commonalities, given they all have such different backgrounds and the pace is moving so fast. Oh and the fact that people are already making allies across the tribes. Which Rob said was smart, given they are doomed if the Aussies get the upper hand. Cirie jumped on Parvati’s move, talking about how the game started the second they hit the mats and while she hadn’t had many conversations, things picked up this afternoon and she is feeling more hopeful. Tony downplayed aligning down country lines, while Rob suggested everyone should avoid a blindside this early and everyone should be unified. And while Kass agreed with JLP that it can’t be unified, she did think it could be close. While Parvati danced around the fact that she, Tony and Cirie have cause to be nervous.

Talk turned to strength with Cirie pointing out that physical strength isn’t the be all and end all, which Rob tried to agree with, talking about how important it is to stand firm with your allies and build trust over time. Which Parvati hilariously pointed out means he is wanting them to come back to build trust, with her getting so far under his skin that he mentioned he has no interest in ever working with her, because she has a big secret she is keeping from the tribe. She admitted that she and David had been on a show together before this, however she didn’t say they would work together. She then went in on Rob, talking about how he and David are the ones constantly talking at challenges and clearly want to work together. Lisa mentioned that the game has moved so quickly, she didn’t even know an entire storyline crossing the reality multiverse had been happening while she was scrambling on the beach.

Cirie tried to distract from the mess, talking about how whatever had been going on doesn’t change the relationships she has formed. While Parvati said she will clearly be voting for Rob – as he will her – because Parvati refuses to play with someone who wants to control his allies. Cirie then got up to talk to Lisa, Kass and Tommi who agreed nothing had changed. With that the tribe voted – Rob shockingly for Cirie, to protect against an idol – before the votes piled up on Rob and swiftly sent him from the game.

While he was disappointed and a little shocked to be out first, it took it in his stride and admitted to clearly underestimating how good the US legends were. And given he was so sweet, I couldn’t bring myself to point out you can’t repeat your winning game on an All Stars – unless you are Sandra – so strong-arming everyone was never going to work. So instead, I served him up a batch of Fairob Brentele and sent him on his way.

Given this is my farewell season alongside JLP, I knew I had to work my way through a few iconic Australian recipes. And there is none more iconic than Fairy Bread. While it doesn’t really have much flavour – aside from sweet bread and butter – I will never turn it down. Nor will Rob, now.

Serves: 1.

Ingredients
2 slices white bread
1-2 tbsp butter, softened
1-2 tbsp hundreds and thousands

Method
Spread the butter all the way to the edges on each slice of bread.

Sprinkle with hundreds and thousands.

Cut into triangles. Devour.

The one where Shonee joins the Black Widow Brigade

While I am irate that my beloved Jonathan has been unceremoniously dumped by 10, I had to choose honouring his run as host with one final batch of culinary comfort, rather than protesting the channel and the show. Which is 100% what 10 deserves.

Plus, I joined JLP and this ICONIC cast in Samoa well before the news broke, and TBH, you don’t deserve to miss out on this final bit of BTS action. And what BTS action it is. I mean, even the characters I’m not a fan of – they know who they are – you can’t deny that every single person on this cast is an absolute legend. Survivor 50 wishes.

New Zealand’s Lisa played a killer game in Thailand despite being underestimated until it was way too late. SA’s Rob played a game as dominant as Boston Rob’s, though on his first try, against decent competitors. George is like a moderately more successful and less problematic Russell, David – who I will never refer to as the GG or host – put on a masterclass on All Stars and holds the record for most money won in (broadcast) TV history. There he met one of the top three Survivor players of all time, Parvati, who is back to finally join the two-time winner club. But only because I can root for Cirie to win Survivor 50, otherwise, my money would be on the other top three player in the cast.

Side note: the number one player is Sandra, obvi. Tony is fourth, given he is the second two-time winner.

Janine, the icon, straight up paused running a business empire to dominate Champions V Contenders II alongside an award winning actress (that sentence alone should make you love Australian Survivor). And while Luke became the Fourth Place Robbed Goddess that season, the public felt so bad they Rupert’ed him the prize like it was US All Stars.

He is joined by Sarah, who proved herself deadly in their original season despite being the runner-up of The Face (maybe working with Naomi Campbell taught her well). Kirby comes back actually knowing what game she is playing, which should be enough to take her to the end, given she dominated without watching an episode.

Leaving us with the reason for the season, the alpha the omega, the woman the myth the legend – Shonee Bowtell (well, technically we’re left with her, I don’t know anything about Kass and Tommi, but I will assume they are awesome too)!

There is a reason Shonee comes back every couple of seasons and no, it has nothing to do with inflation – she is the icon of Australian Survivor. Funny, smart and a challenge beast of the pilates set. With her around, it is guaranteed that the Shontent will be on point.
